I try to live my life like my parents do (all four of them). They're each so different, but within them is a true strand of sameness. They each show up for life. They're genuine and open. They are adventurers. They are each doers.
And I am so fortunate for their example.
It would have been so easy to NOT drive to Chicago and back in twenty-four hours, by myself, in late July, with a one-year-old. But it wouldn't have been fun.
It would've been easy to say NO to taking a day off and flying in for a whirlwind trip to Houston that left me dehydrated and exhausted and hoarse. But it wouldn't have been fun.
I've had about six people in the last twenty-four hours tell me that I was crazy. That I am crazy. You know what? Screw that.
I got to hold hands with my grandma. I got to eat the best waffle I've ever had next to my Aunt Rhonda. I got to drink beer for lunch on a Friday afternoon and talk important things with my dad. I got to laugh about everything with my mom. I got to nap with my little brother. I got to talk to Gale about scripture and watch him cuddle with Tuck. I got to watch Shelley be completely celebrated and loved on by good people. I got to get ready with my cousin Allie and talk about important things with her while the downtown lights of Houston shined in our hotel room at three a.m.
Screw missing out on all of that.
I'd rather be exhausted than The Girl That Missed It.
PS - Allie was my "travel buddy" on Saturday night. That's why there are 9,000 pictures of us. Plus ... why not?
. About Moi .
I love, love, love flannel sheets and I am really passionate about lists on post it notes and most of the time I'm sad that no one else is as excited as I am about Diet Mountain Dew. I also adore run-on sentences. And if you need an awesome virtual assistant, who is full of personality and really good jokes? Email me. I'm your girl.
