Walking, I am listening to a deeper way. Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. Be still, they say. Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands.
It was whispered assurance on a rainy night last spring - you are the result of the love of thousands. It played around in my head for some time. Little snippets like that often get written down in this journal or that one, in the margins of books, on scraps of paper that get shoved down in my purse, on sticky notes on my desk, in the Sunday space of my calendar ... These little nuggets of wisdom are everywhere.
It happens to me all the time. I'll be searching for something (if you only knew how many things get misplaced in my life ...) and I'll come across something that was imperative to me at the time - some little slice of importance.
And it'll take my breath away.
Do you see it in the quote above? Listening to a deeper way.
That's hearing the mistakes you've made.
That's still taking baby steps forward.
And it made me think of ---
All the places you have been ...
All the places you haven't been ...
All the people you have met ...
All the people you haven't met ...
You are the result of thousands, she writes. She doesn't say you are just the result of your parents.
She doesn't even call out just your grandparents.
Thousands, she says.
Literally thousands of people ---
Hands clasped around yours, palms on your shoulders pushing you forward ... cheerleaders all along your path. You are the result of summertime sleepovers, graceful forgiveness, and grim, pursed lips every now and then. You are the result of every lesson learned, every sermon on Sunday morning, and every single afternoon when school was over for the day and the light hit the kitchen just right - when your mom and dad were both home for the day and your homework was done for the day and for just a few minutes in between dinner being finished and the dishes needing to be done - life was just perfect.
You are the result of thousands.
Think of how powerful you can be with love like that.
