Salt Lake City Eats- 2026

I have listed below some of my favorites for the new year. Click on the name of the restaurant for a link to the official website. Get out there and try some new and yummy finds!

  1. Gordos – Tacos to die for! Gordo’s was created to honor the memory of the owners son. Located at 5470 South 900 East. This place is near where my husband works, so he picks up tacos to go and brings them home for dinner sometimes. I love the birria tacos, the chips and guac, the carne asada and the al pastor. I would totally drive across town for these tacos however.
  1. Contigo Peru– Peruvian like your abuelita used to make. Love the Ceviche de Pescado (seafood ceviche) or the arroz de pollo (chicken and rice). Steaks are also done well and the Peruvian version of steak is unique and totally delectable. Located in West Valley. Good for a date night before a concert at the Maverick center.
  2. Taqueria El Gallo Loco– Located in Sandy this little taqueria is big on flavors. The owner is there nightly and is so happy and friendly all the time. Ask him for recommendations on his daily specials, or the fresh agua frescas he makes. I’ve never tried anything bad here, and the friendliness brings a smile to my face everytime we visit
  3. Cafe Guanaco delicious tacos and pupusas. Located in Kearns off 5400 South and 3970 west. There is also a downtown location. Very authentic flavors and reasonably priced. Whenever I’m in the area I like to stop in and get a pupusa. It takes me back to the food cart we visited in Belize city….ahh with ocean breezes and the tangy cabbage curtido on top. Yum!
  4. Ty’s Fish and Chips– Located in Sandy. The owner and chef grew up in Vietnam and trained under Japanese masters. From the beloved restaurant Chopfuku, comes a casual fish and chips shop. My absolute favorite here are the fried crab balls, bursting with fresh crab and fried to perfection. There are also fish and chips, shrimp and calamari. Choose from a variety of dipping sauces. The prices are very fair for the quality of the fish and preparation
  1. Central- 9th Market– Located in the 9th and 9th area of Salt Lake. Breakfast sandwiches on toasted foccacia is what they do best. Pick how you like your eggs, scrambled or overeasy, then pick your breakfast meat. You can choose from bacon, spam and mortadella. The breakfast sandwiches are huge and very filling. They also have a delicious pizza served at lunch time, only open until 5pm most days. One of the best breakfast sandwiches in the valley!
  2. Bricks Pizza– Chicago Deep Dish pizza. The pizza comes in single serving sized deep dish with a variety of fun and interesting pizza toppings. This restaurant is located in Sugarhouse and does offer takeout. They use seasonal and local ingredients for the freshest possible toppings. Try the salty pig pie with pork, bacon, carmelized onions and jalepenos. I also like the spartachoke with white sauce, artichokes and spinach.
  3. Miyazaki– Elevated Japanese and Sushi. This restaurant at Fashion Place Mall has some really good sushi. We tried the scallops, fatty tuna, chile crunch roll, ceviche and the freshly grated (real) wasabi root. It is a great spot for a date night or special occasion. They also have some spendy wagyu steaks as well as a burger if you are dining with someone who doesn’t eat fish or sushi. I especially enjoyed that they have a good mocktail menu.

Nano’s Bagels

A new brick and mortar store opened 2ish months ago in Sandy just off of 9400 S and 700 E. They started out this summer visiting farmers markets and selling their delicous New York style bagels. The store is a small and cute little shop , with a variety of sweet and savory bagel flavors and unique and freshly made schmears. I like the garden veggie cream cheese, the peach habenero cream cheese, the roasted garlic, and the coconut/apricot schmear. The owners are super friendly and will chat with you while you are waiting for your order. They also have a handful of freshly made breakfast sandwiches and lunch sandwiches as well as a cooler with canned beverages. They also have a decent sized offering of empanadas. Try them out, you won’t be dissapointed!

Slackwater Pizza

This could be one of my favorite pizza restaurants in Utah, with locations in Ogden, SLC, Sandy and Herriman. They have a large variety of unique pizzas as well as your normal toppings. The wings are really good, but I do recommend going into the restaurant to eat them, they just lose something special when you get them to go.

I love the Grape and Gorgeous pizza which has a garlic olive oil base, blistered red grapes, bacon, rosemary and gorgonzola cheese. If you have never had grapes on a pizza it is a delicious sweet, funky and salty combo that really hits. Their popular California sunrise comes with roasted chicken, bacon on their green goddess sauce topped with fresh avocado and shredded spinach. Yum! You also can’t go wrong with the hot honey and pepperoni pizza.

Salt Lake City may not be known for it’s food scene but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t great restaurants out there to discover. Enjoy
